Three Wise Pups

Waiting and Surrender

There are seasons in life where it feels as though everything has been placed on pause.

We wait for answers. We wait for opportunities. We wait for healing. We wait for the people we love to arrive safely. We wait for dreams that seem just out of reach.

I’ve come to realise that waiting isn’t simply time passing by. It’s where our faith, patience and perspective are quietly shaped. Looking back, many of the moments I once wished away were the very moments preparing me for what came next.

This poem was written during one of those seasons.

It’s a reflection on surrender, on the illusion of control, and on discovering that sometimes the greatest gifts arrive only after we’ve stopped trying to force them.

If you’re in a season of waiting, I hope these words remind you to loosen your grip on the steering wheel, trust the road beneath you, and believe that not all progress can be seen from where you’re standing.

Surrender

Let the universe take the lead,
sit back and enjoy the view.
Watch the roadkill go by,
the storms, the detours,
and the almighty kangaroos.

Know you are safe,
for only the divine knows the destination and the path.
The one that leads through the bullshit and the darkness,
even though at times, it may feel harsh.

No matter how hard you grip the steering wheel,
it’ll take you where it wants,
so don’t force the detour,
cause the breakdowns,
or chase the taunts.

As soon as the soul no longer needs the outcome,
and simply enjoys the ride,
life has a funny way of arriving
with the very thing you were chasing inside.

Pull it left and pull it right,
sometimes all we do is fight.

The control was never ours,
it’s just an illusion we chose to believe.                                                                                                                                                                          Until dreams we may stumble upon
come gifted from the unseen.

Those dreams don’t feel heavy,
simply a bright idea,
a love of pursuing,
and a vision beyond the fear.

So yes, wait we must,
as frustrating as it first may seem.
But with life happening for us,
the setbacks only strengthen the dream.

Even when the stakes are high,
we must find a rhyme and reason,
to keep looking up towards the sky.

Let it go,
give thanks for what is yet to come,
release the doubt,
and trust what will become.

Pull it left and pull it right,
sometimes all we do is fight.

The control was never ours,
it’s just an illusion we chose to believe.                                                                                                                                                                                          Until dreams we may stumble upon
come gifted from the unseen.

Those dreams don’t feel heavy,
simply a bright idea,
a love of pursuing,
and a vision beyond the fear.

Waiting, waiting, waiting—
what is it trying to teach?
Only looking back do we realise
the waiting was preparing us
for gifts we couldn’t yet reach.

Sometimes it will hurt,
and it won’t make sense.
Then out of nowhere,
the moment we release it,
everything begins to bend.

So let go we must,                                                                                                                                                                      and trust in the unseen.                                                                                                                                              For life is worth embracing,                                                                                                                                              even before we live the dream.

Pull it left and pull it right,
sometimes all we do is fight.

The control was never ours,
it’s just an illusion we chose to believe.                                                                                                                                                                             Until dreams we may stumble upon
come gifted from the unseen.

Those dreams don’t feel heavy,
simply a bright idea,
a love of pursuing,
and a vision beyond the fear.
