An Ocean of Love

An Ocean of Love: A Reflection on Love, the Way Nature Intended

I wrote this many years ago for a dear friend’s engagement — a few simple thoughts about love, inspired by the ocean. I never imagined it would travel any further than that moment. But when she asked me to read it at her wedding, I realised something: the words held more than memory. They held meaning.

So today, I’m sharing it here — not just as a reflection on love between two people, but as a reminder of the kind of love that is strong, resilient, expansive, grounding, and free.

An Ocean of Love:

The ocean surrounds us,
unites us,
and connects us through its reach —
no matter where you are in the world.

The ocean supports us,
allowing life to thrive within it.

The ocean gives us freedom and joy,
yet grounds us
through its beauty and power.

The ocean cannot be conquered by man,
broken,
or divided.

The ocean tests us,
but teaches us to move with it —
not against it.

The ocean shapes our world,
giving each continent its character.

And lastly,
the ocean washes over us,
leaving us with a feeling of peace and happiness.

So, as you embark on this journey together,
remember the ocean within your love.

Let your love surround you,
unite you,
and connect you —
no matter where you may be within our world.

Let your love support one another,
allowing you both to grow
and thrive in happiness.

Let your love give you freedom,
while grounding you together
in its strength and beauty.

Allow your love to be guided by you and no other man or woman.
Let it be strong,
unchanging,
and deeply yours.

Let your love teach you,
shape you,
and guide you through life —
giving you character as individuals,
but also strength as one.

And when the waters feel rough,
turn toward each other and let your love wash away what no longer serves you,
and let the current carry forward
all the happiness and blessings you so deeply deserve.
